If you've ever owned a Nikon camera, then you knew that this would be a fantastic camera before Nikon finally announced it even existed. The year long anticipation appears to have paid off. This is one sharp, fast reacting camera. It has the latest technology of the top of the line D300 with the more moderate features and price of the mid-line cameras - not to suggest that this camera is cheap,...
Strengths: D300 Image Quality, High ISO use; gets MANY features once exclusive to >$2,000 models (see Comments); 920k LCD, drive speed (5fps on mine), JPG processing, , 11-point
Weakness: Software for advanced editing is very good but costly (Capture NX2, appx. $150), as is the PC control software (Camera Control 2, $75 or so?). Canon gives similar software for free. Awful bundled apps
For the sake of disclosure, I've owned Canons (30D & 40D, used 5D Mk. II for several jobs) and currently shoot with a Nikon D90 and D700. As the first "2nd-generation" Nikon DSLR to retail for less than $2,000 (See critic Ken Rockwell's fine explanation at www.kenrockwell.com/ni...), you get the best "bang for the buck" with the D90. The power of its Picture Control System (PCS) affords enormous...
Strengths: Excellent image quality, many advanced features yet easy-to-use, included lens is light and compact, HD movie mode is fun to mess around with
Weakness: Zoom range of lens is limited (18-105mm), limitations of HD movie mode (no autofocus, 5 minute limit for HD)
I bought this dSLR after reading a bunch of positive reviews online. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase. As others have mentioned, it's not perfect, but it's probably the best available right now in this price range. This is my first dSLR and I was impressed with how quickly I was able to jump in and start using it. You can get excellent images right out of the box using the Auto...
Strengths: Image quality and excellent buy for the money!
Weakness: NONE!
I have been a photographer using Nikon cameras and lenses for over 40 years and this camera is my favorite to date! With 12.3 megapixels, a great image processor, and a sharp lens, this camera produces sharp images that I have printed and sold 30x40 inch prints from! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS CAMERA!
Strengths: Lightweight, good fast lens, VR
Weakness: No in body vr
The d90 is a great camera body. i upgraded from the D70 and have not been disappointed. My only issue is that the grip is slightly small so it's hard to hold (i'm 5'11 with normal sized hands). It's perfect for my wife to hold though! The 3" screen is amazing and the photo quality is excellent. The lens is good for the price - not th ebest but not the worst either. VR is a nice touch.

The Nikon D90 is a digital SLR camera made to replace the D 80. But the D 90 is more than just an upgrade. It has been given some of the new features found in the top of the line Nikon D series, one of them the highly acclaimed 3 in. VGA viewscreen. Equipped with Life View with contrast-detect AF that includes Face Detection Technology, the big surprise to some reviewers is that it has the first...

The image quality is steady as a rock. Excellent color reproduction and superb dynamic range combined with Nikon's 3D Matrix metering ensure an outstanding DSLR. Nikon shows to be able to swiftly integrate innovations coming from the professional DSLR in the amateur market, making this segment also stand out from the crowd. The D90 is definitely worth its money and well worth stepping over to...

Nikon rocked the DSLR world when they introduced their D90 SLR early this Fall, the first SLR that can record movies. Its video capabilities won't replace dedicated camcorders, but will provide welcome relief for photographers tired of carrying along a pocket digicam just for taking "video snapshots". Its movie recording is only one of the many exceptional features the Nikon D90 has to offer. It...

The Nikon D90 is the first ever digital SLR camera that can shoot video, in addition to its 12.3 megapixel still images. The D90 records 720p high definition video at 24fps with mono-sound for up to 5 minutes, which can be played back in style on the new 3-inch LCD screen with 170? viewing angle and 920,000 dots. Other advanced features offered by the Nikon D90 include Live View shooting with...

The Nikon D90 is a feature-packed DSLR which inherits key features from the semi-pro D300, while adding unique capabilities of its own. As the long-awaited successor to the popular D80, it brings that model bang up-to-date with the latest features and gadgetry. So you get the same 12.3 Megapixel resolution, 3in VGA screen and HDMI port of the D300 in a body that shares the excellent build,...

The last Nikon digital SLR I reviewed was the D60, and to be honest, it didn't do much for me. My impression of the D90 is the total opposite: it blew me away. In terms of photo quality, manual controls, performance, customizability, and yes, its movie mode, the D90 is a home run. There are a few annoyances, such as slow focusing in live view mode and horrible bundled RAW editing software, but...

GREAT CAMERA
Strengths: Lightweight, good fast lens
Weakness: MOTHING
Awesome picture quality, same as my D300. It is much more plasticy than a D300, but I like it because it's much lighter and fits my hands perfectly. There isn't an obvious video button, but it was easy to figure out once you hit the LV (live view) button it prompts you to press OK to start recording. The top LCD screen is smaller than the D300. The 3 inch screen is amazing, just like the D300....
